§ 98-26. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Driver means and includes every person in actual charge of the operation of a taxicab, whether as owner or agent, servant or employee of the owner.

    Owner means any person who has control, direction, maintenance and the benefit of the collection of revenue derived from the operation of taxicabs on or over the streets or public ways of the city, whether as owner or otherwise, except as driver.

    Public stand means any place on a public street that is being generally appropriated and used by a taxicab, when not engaged in the transportation of passengers, for the purpose of awaiting public or private patronage.

    Taxicab means a motor vehicle suitable for transporting passengers for hire, except motor buses or motor coaches operated by bus lines over designated routes in and through the city.
