§ 61. Effective date of this Charter.

The present mayor and two (2) city council members were elected for a term of two (2) years, which term does not expire until April 1, 1954, and it is not the purpose and intention of those voting for the adoption of this Charter in any manner to interfere with the tenure of these officers during the term for which they were elected. It is therefore understood and agreed that the present form of city government for the City of Commerce is not to be changed until April 1, 1954, when the council-city manager plan of city government, if adopted by the majority of the voters of the City of Commerce, shall become effective.
